The study of human evolution isn’t merely an academic exercise in looking backward, Edwords believes. It tells us who we are and the sorts of things we do. Hence it can inform us about our impact on the environment and our future as a species. Edwords -one of the most eloquent speakers on Humanism – presents an illuminating and powerful presentation illustrated with revealing images from the Smithsonian.

Fred Edwords is a member of the Broader Social Impacts Committee of the Hall of Human Origins at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum–an exhibit that goes beyond the fossils to show what human evolution means. He is also director of planned giving for the American Humanist Association, an organization he served for fifteen years as executive director and the past Director of the Coalition of Reason. He also was the primary author of the Humanist Manifesto III.

You can RSVP to the program on Meetup.com at the Cape Fear Humanists & Freethinkers event page.
